“Our Beautiful Mother” copyright N.Jacquin; watercolour; 10″ x 14″ image

Sadly there weren’t many photos and the ones they did have of their mother were in bad shape. They had tried another artist and her results did not match her promises. Understandably they were a little gun shy to try again with a new artist. They told me they had been watching my work for quite a while and that they felt confident in my ability to deliver what they wanted.

Experience pays. I first created a portrait to order while in high school. I started painting portraits in 1989 part time and in 1995 I went full time with my portrait work. 24 years have now past and all that practise ensures you will receive a quality portrait that we both can be proud of. Referrals are available upon request. Some of my clients have as many as 6 – 7 of my originals. I am ever so grateful of their loyalty and trust they place in me.

I met with the clients ( 2 sisters) free of charge to see what they had available. ( My initial 1 hour consult is always free.) I can go through 6-8 albums worth of images whether in a box, album or on your computer within one hour. In that time I can learn more about the people to be painted, their character, interests and places significant to them. I try to incorporate those things in a portrait to add context. Sometimes as in this portrait the client just wants a simple head and shoulder painting.

If there are several people to be painted. You do not need 1 perfect photo. Photos can sometimes be misleading, so seeing several of a person can really help. I can take an expression from one photo and body pose from another or even people from different photos and set them into a background that adds meaning to your portrait. I can also take photos for you too if need be.

Have an anniversary or landmark birthday? Give them a memory that will be passed down for generations. I use only the highest quality materials so your portrait will last for generations. You can choose between watercolour, graphite, acrylic or oil. In all cases I include framing except for works created on a gallery wrapped canvas. In this portrait Iused a watercolour sepia tone in various values to keep that vintage look.

We met at my farmer’s yesterday and they were very pleased. Just wait till they see it all framed. My framer is a perfectionist. They will be over the moon!

I have created many works for people who do not live in Saskatchewan my home province. With modern technology, email, my toll free number 1-877-335-7655 and cell phone cameras we are able to do consult, selection of images, approval of final work and selection of framing all online and by phone.

Do you have a special event coming up and don’t know what to get. Why not get them a portrait that will continue to give memories! I also have gift cards. Present the gift card and let your recipient participate in the selection of photos with me!

Let’s start the process now! For Christmas gifts be sure to give me a bit of lead time. I suggest calling in summer for something to be created for Christmas. My framer usually needs 2 – 3 weeks lead time and the latest he will accept a framing job is the 8th of Dec.

I will make payment arrangements to suit your budget. There is a price range for every budget with my pricing starting at $350.+ taxes. Usually a 50% deposit is placed by MasterCsrd, Visa or etransfer during the consultation. The final balance is due when we meet at the farmers. It is possible to break the total into 4 payments. I am happy to make a workable arrangement for you!
